East Asia is one of the worlds most dynamic economic region, with its 18 member countries representing collectively 55% of the worlds population and accounting for around 55% of global gross domestic product (GDP). The East Asia Summit, which started as a vision of community-building, has become an effective platform to discuss issues of common interest and importance to global peace, stability and prosperity.
